Calibration of Temperature Monitoring Systems Home Page
Thermocal Laboratory is accredited to calibrate
temperature measuring and monitoring systems associated with large freezers,
chillers and food processing areas. A typical system would comprise a number of
fixed temperature sensors located in different
areas. The sensors would be
connected to a centralized temperature measuring device that could be a multi
channel chart
recorder or computer based data logging system.
The laboratory has two calibrated reference
temperature sensors that are used for on site temperature calibrations. Each
sensor
must be located in the same position as the sensor/s being calibrated.
The reference sensors are used in conjunction with two
digital temperature
meters located inside a portable temperature controlled enclosure. The enclosure
provides a stable ambient
environment for the meters. The
reference system is calibrated at regular intervals and the associated
uncertainty has been
determined to be less than ± 0.2° C.
Calibrations are carried out only at the
operating temperature of the areas where the fixed sensors are located. This
should ideally be the normal operating temperature. It is preferable that there
is minimal disturbance to air temperature
while the calibrations are being
carried out.
If sensors are difficult to access due to height
or product storage, then some assistance might be required in positioning the
reference
sensors. For large areas or systems, some assistance will usually be
required to locate the sensors. Some supervision may be
required, to ensure the
safety of the person working at heights, or in cold conditions.
A summary of the on site measurements is recorded
in a Certificate of Calibration endorsed by International Accreditation New
Zealand
(IANZ, formerly Telarc). The certificate contains information on any
corrections to be applied to readings of the temperature monitoring
system, and
a determination of the accuracy of the system.
The reference thermometers used by the laboratory
have calibrations that are traceable to the Australian national
standards of
temperature measurement, which are recognised internationally. The calibration carried out by the
laboratory will ensure that
temperature measurements made by the client’s
temperature measuring system are traceable to national standards.
Because of the increasing workload carried out by
the laboratory, on site labour required for the calibration of temperature monitoring
systems
is subcontracted to Imtest Laboratory Ltd.
Imtest Laboratory is a well established
laboratory that is proficient in a wide range of testing and measurements. The
laboratory is
IANZ accredited for some tests, and in addition, is assessed by
Standards Australia for some of the work carried out. Staff at Imtest
Laboratory
have a good understanding of the requirements necessary for maintaining quality
assurance.
Imtest Laboratory will carry out the on site
measurements using instruments and equipment belonging to Thermocal Laboratory,
following
procedures established by this laboratory. Thermocal Laboratory will
be responsible for processing the measurements and issuing an
IANZ endorsed
Report.
We are confident that the high standard of work that has been achieved in the past will continue to be maintained.
If you have digital or liquid in glass
thermometer that requires calibration, Imtest Laboratory can arrange for the
instrument/s to
be
calibrated by Thermocal Laboratory.
